We offer the challene of an exciting and very necessary project of preserving one of our Commonwealth's colonial treasurers, the Yorktown Customhouse. This will be achieved through a new venture into the field of fund-raising, using a firm specializing in raising funds for non-profit organizations, and then accomplishing the preservation work with a high quality commercial contractor. The project's cost is an estimated $120,000.

This 283 year old colonial British building is faced with a severe "moisture challenge" from without its age-old foundation, primarily due to the continuing re-paving of two perimeter roads. The drainage water accumulates and runs off the roadway into the window wells in such quantity and force that often glass in the basement windows breaks allowing run-off water to enter the English basement. Measures by the County Government to redirect this flow have not been successful.

The 225th anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown occurs on October 19, 2006. Our goal is for the Customhouse, one of the few original buildings remaining in Yorktown, to be ready by then.
