Chapter Activities
Members of our Lane’s Mill Chapter participate in service activities that reflect the interests of our existing members, our prospective members, and the community at large. We also participate in DAR-related business activities, such as attendance at district meetings, the annual state conference of the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution, and Continental Congress. Community Service
- Present certificates and bronze medals for outstanding work in American history in schools, which includes elementary through high school.
- Provide information on scholarships for children of members and the public
- Support work of Junior American Citizens
- Conduct programs with Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.)
Constitution
- Mount display in public area to educate public on the Constitution
- Distribute posters to commercial businesses on Constitution Week
DAR Schools
- Collect labels needed by DAR schools
- Conduct programs on DAR schools
- Send books and personal items for students
Historic Preservation
- Arrange “field trip” meetings for members to local historical sites, e.g., Sully Plantation and the DAR Museum
- Mark sites with historical significance to Fairfax County, such as Walney House
- Invite speakers on topics such as Monticello, the White House, and Sully Plantation
Service to Veterans
- Collect coupons to distribute to commissaries overseas for military families
- Send personal products to hospitalized veterans
- Sign holiday cards to send to active duty military
