Welcome to the Williamsburg Chapter NSDAR!

On March 26, 1925, 12 local women came together to form the Williamsburg Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, named for our beloved historic town. Our charter dated April 18, 1927, lists Mrs. Littleberry Foster as the organizing regent, and contains the names of the 26 charter members. After 52 years of wear and tear this charter was beautifully framed and is housed for safekeeping in the Swem Library Special Collections at the College of William and Mary. Today our chapter is one of the largest in Virginia.

We welcome you to meet our Daughters and explore what we do. The Williamsburg Chapter meets the first Tuesday of the month September-December and February-May. Monthly meetings include a social period, a business session, program with notable speaker, and a luncheon. We participate in commemorative events such as the 9/11 Remembrance, Constitution Day, DAR Day of Service, Yorktown Day, First Thanksgiving Festival at Berkeley Plantation, and Veterans Day and Memorial Day with Colonial Williamsburg and the Sons of the American Revolution. Our award-winning Fourth of July program and wreath laying is held annually celebrating American Independence and honoring Declaration of Independence signer Benjamin Harrison V at the Berkeley Plantation Cemetery. We participate in outstanding adult and youth naturalization ceremonies in collaboration with Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement. Through our Community Classroom Committee, we enjoy a strong relationship with the Williamsburg-James City County Schools by participating in a community partnership called the First Grade Citizenship Partner Program. This partnership allows DAR members to support teachers in the classroom by teaching historical and patriotic lessons based on the Virginia Standards of Learning. We support our active military through donations to the Project Patriot Committee. Our veteran support includes Valentines for Veterans and Flag Day Visitation at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. Children under the age of 18 are encouraged and supported through our participation with the Junior American Citizen Committee and the George Wythe Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution.
